About Naoya “Tama” Tamanaha
Naoya “Tama” Tamanaha is an FAA Designated Pilot Examiner (DPE) serving applicants in Las Vegas, Nevada, and Honolulu, Hawaii. He also serves as an Embraer Phenom 300 Captain at Flexjet.
With over three decades of aviation experience in the United States and Japan, Tama brings a practical perspective to evaluating aeronautical knowledge, flying skills, and decision-making. His background includes 17 years as Chief Flight Instructor at the USAF Kadena Flight Training Center, where he led instructor standardization and supported training quality.
Tama is an FAA Gold Seal Flight Instructor and has earned NAFI Master CFI recognition multiple times. He has also served for over 25 years as an FAA Safety Team Representative, supporting aviation safety and pilot proficiency. He is fluent in English and Japanese.
